The Dinner Party

George Dorr stood on his front porch waiting for his guests to arrive. He had his servant escort President Wilson and his wife, Edith, to the dining room. His second guest was John Rockefeller. Rockefeller’s wife was sick.

The dinner table is set with golden plates. The goblets were filled with red wine. He helped Edith Wilson into her seat.  “Let’s eat,” said Dorr. Dorr rang the dinner bell and servants came in with the food. After half an hour into dinner, Edith said, “That was a great meal. I think everyone is done. Bring in the desserts please.” George rang the bell again. The servants brought in ice creams, cakes, jello and more!

George bit into a piece of banana cream pie. “This is better than usual,” he said with pie all over his mustache. Everyone laughed. President Wilson even fell off his chair! George Dorr said, “Let’s go into the den and talk about the park we’re going to make.” Rockefeller said, “My compliments to the chef. That 20 layer cake was delicious.” They went into the den to talk about the park…

George B. Dorr

George B. Dorr was wealthy and had a 31 room mansion. Today we arrived for a dinner party. Guests came, they had music playing and butlers dancing and chefs cooking delicious food.

1917 it is July 4 and it was the hottest day of the year! It was so hot that they had to ride in carriages with sheets to protect themselves from the heat. The guests finally arrived. The butlers stopped dancing and helped the guests in. Charles Eliot was the first to arrive. A lot of George Dorr’s relatives came. Then came his best friend, Mr. John D. Rockefeller.

The guests raised their glass to make a cheer. They had blue cheese and artichokes and fried fish. They had chicken wings covered with gravy. They have mashed potatoes and a pot of steaming apple cider with champagne for the adults.

They ate most of the food and two glasses of champagne. George says, “Wow that was a big meal. John D. said. “You said it my friend.” Charles said. “I almost forgot the box.” He rushed out and came back with a big box. George B. opened it. There was a tree named the rhododendron!

Everyone left. John D. said “so long, boss.” Charles Eliot said, “I hope you life that tree. And that was the end of their dinner party.

George B Dorr had a 30 room “cottage.” He had a party in the dining room one day. He invited 5 to 10 couples. He was very rich, but alone. He had lots of fun with his friends.

Some people he invited were President Wilson, Eliot and Rockefeller. They came by horse. They went through the entrance porch. They saw lots of things.

They talked about animals, trees, and mountains. They also talked about how big Acadia was going to be.

They ate turkey, fish, deer, rabbits, berries and more delicious, appetizing foods. Then they ate dessert that had homemade cake, pies, fruit mixes and more sweets.

The Dinner Party

100 years ago...George B. Dorr was hosting a dinner party. These were the people invited- John and Lawrence Rockefeller, the president of the United States, Charles Eliot, the conductor of the Green Mountain Train and some other rich and famous people (ask about girl with song about her).

The servants started bringing food to the guests. The guests are chatting about making Acadia National Park. “We can build Acadia National Park for people to enjoy,” says George Dorr. “Well, that’s fantastic idea, my filthy rich brother,” said Charles Eliott.

President Wilson said, “If we spent all this money to get land we can make a great park.”

“But if we use all our money for Acadia National Park we will be penniless,” said the girl. George Dorr and Charles Eliot have a bromance! Soon the servants started bringing out the food there were roast bbq chicken and other stuff.

They were finishing their food and decided that some of them would spend all of their money and others would not and that was that. Because others were more filthy rich than others!
