Hey kids, do you want to learn about tide pools? We went to Compass Harbor and found some tide pools. We had to go at low tide because if you go at high tide the water covers the tide pools. We found lots of sea creatures, here is information about 2 of them.

The blue mussel is edible. That means you can eat it! But don't eat the shell and cook it before you eat it. It has a pretty shiny blue back! You can spot it easily, they are everywhere! The shell can be up to 10cm long! The blue mussel can produce purplish pearls, but the pearls are not good enough to make into jewelry.

The common periwinkle is up to 3cm long! Periwinkles can be up to ten years old, like we will be! The mom attaches eggs to the rocks. A jelly coating keeps them wet at low tide. If you look on a big or maybe small rock, you will probably find a common periwinkle.
